Elyria City Schools

The Elyria School Board elected to keep the historic 39,780 SF Washington Building portion of their existing school and add 277,251 SF to house 1,750 students, essentially creating a new school. Total cost for the project is estimated at $71,694,105. The new school is seeking LEED Silver certification and includes one of the area’s largest geothermal well fields – 288 wells, 500 feet deep.

The new school features two student-designed
internal courtyards, one for visual arts and one for science. Doors in the art and science classrooms open into the courtyards which will be used for instruction and hands-on learning. An additional component of the program is a performing arts auditorium that seats 850. The project requires extensive site work and demolition.
