Regency was chosen as Elyria’s Construction Manager in 2002 and has consistently worked with the District since that time. In May 2007, after four failed attempts, the District’s bond issue passed, and the design and construction of
the new high school is moving forward. The existing
Elyria High School, founded in 1894, is notable for
being the first chartered high school west of the
Allegheny Mountains. The oldest section, the
Washington Building, is on the national Register
of Historic Places, and the Board has elected to
keep the 39,780 sf Washington Building portion of the existing school. The project includes an addition of 253,018 square feet and a $4.5 million performing arts auditorium. The new school will house 1750 students. Total cost for the project is estimated at $57,171,263.
