Regency Construction Services, Inc. served as the Construction Manager at Risk for the Magnificat High School Sisters of the Humility of Mary Center for Science Exploration & Innovation, which converted an entire second floor wing of the high school into a science hub, complete with flexible classrooms and study spaces for students.

Regency served as the Construction Manager at Risk for the science lab upgrades to a second-floor wing at Magnificat High School.

Our team constructed the following new spaces:

  • STEM workshop

  • Learning commons

  • Chemistry and physics labs

  • Innovation labs

  • Teacher collaboration space

The scope included removing the traditional double-lined corridor with lockers and constructing new, open, collaborative spaces including new interior walls, glazing systems with glass overhead garage doors, new MEP systems for physics and chemistry labs, refinishing existing casework with new hardware, and adding new cubbies for student storage.

Regency self-performed rough and finish carpentry on this project, including blocking, doors, frames, hardware, and millwork installation.

The labs are designed to be flexible so that different classes can be held in different labs depending on what experiments are being completed. Our team reconnected sinks and electrical outlets and installed new and re-installed existing downdraft fume hoods and one larger existing fume hood. Two overhead glass garage doors were installed between classrooms to facilitate either quiet or collaborative spaces, depending on the lesson plan. Electrical cord reels were also installed on the ceilings to make it easier to use technology in the classroom.

The project started at the end of the 2019-2020 school year, was fastpaced and completed on a tight timeframe, using staggered shifts in some cases to facilitate the work of various trades. Strong team communication allowed this project to be completed efficiently and turned over to the school in time for the start of classes in August.

Our Project Manager led several project site tours during the project as well, which helped Magnificat High School with their fundraising efforts.
